Mel Gibson

by Jackrabbit Slim

What does everyone think of the Mel Gibson scandal? Frankly, I'm not surprised by him being stopped for drunk-driving or going on an anti-Semitic rant. It was pretty clear from interviews over the past few years that he is a bit of a nut. I'm not sure what this does to his career. Will people avoid his movies because of this? Maybe some Jews will, but will anyone else? He made enough movie from Passion of the Christ that he won't suffer, anyway.

Not sure I care all that much. I typically don't choose to support or not support someone based on their personal lives, so it's not going to change the fact that I want to see Apocalypto.

Stephen Colbert's bit on this last week was pretty funny, though.

I think it's sad, really. He seems to be a man who turns into his father when he's drunk. I think it will hurt his career, especially if Apocalypto tanks. He doesn't really need to worry about scraping enough money together to pay the bills, so the financial impact certainly won't leave him living on the streets, but it may keep him off of a guest list or two.
Tom Cruise should send him flowers for taking the crown of "Craziest Man in Hollywood."

I think the effect is going to be negligible. There's a big difference between the media picking up on some website getting copies of the police report quoting Gibson's rant and him going on the Today Show and asking Matt Lauer if he's a Jew etc.

I'm shocked at how long this has gone on and how people overlook the more serious issue of drunk driving and endagering everyone else near him on the highway that morning. Not to downplay his remarks, words hurt and all, but only one of his actions came close to causing physical damage and injury. His statements were retarded. If they were his true feelings, he's obviously uninformed and I won't look to him when researching the history of the Jewish people. If they're drunk rantings, they don't mean anything.

Later that day, a few miles up the coast in Seattle, a muslim man opened fire on 6 Jewish women killing one. Mel said Jews were responsible for all the wars. Which act really caused more harm (or even had potential to cause more harm) that day and which one was more seriously anti-semitic?

Well, I don't think anyone would say that Gibson's behavior was worse than gunning six people down. I'm not all that sure why the question even needs to be asked.
