Ellen DeGeneres to host Oscars
by Jackrabbit Slim
The Oscar ceremony of 2007 has a host. I think the strategy is clear--the Academy and ABC have given up on attracting straight men, like they did with Chris Rock and Jon Stewart, and are firming up their base. I mean, do any straight men watch DeGeneres' show? I think she's capable, easier to take in small doses than over three hours. Anybody else have an opinion?

Boring, boring, boring choice. They really should go with Wilson-Vaughn team-up thing Wells suggested. Now that would be worth watching.
I find Ellen to be a much better talk show host than stand-up comedian, so I'm rather apprehensive about the choice. I wish her well, but I don't know if it will be a huge draw.
I find Billy Crystal to be a putz, but I will give him credit for hosting a good Oscar show. It's the only time I like him. He does that kind of shtick well. Letterma and Stewart made the mistake of just turning the Oscars into a special showing of their respective shows. However, I still think Steve Martin was the best host of the post-Carson era.
