Sure Feels Like the Fifties

by Nick
Five points if you can guess the film this opening script line comes from. (Ten minus points if you haven't seen the film.)

I looked at the answer, and while I can't quite claim credit, I was thinking that it sure sounds like the opening for (the answer). I just didn't remember the newsboy shouting that. And I just watched it again two weeks ago, too.

I actually got that (the tip off was the bus doors closing on the irate passenger)

Yeah, funny, me neither. But it has been a while since I saw the film, figured I'd just forgotten about that. I've edited it to say opening script line.

My first thought was Down With Love, but I know that's the early '60's, and yeah, then the bus doors gave it away. And the newsboy is not in the movie (this after being elated at having my copy handy, then finding that WMP10 said it wouldn't play the DVD due to copyright restrictions (wtf?), Nero Showtime said I'd have to upgrade to get the Dolby 2.0 stereo decoder (meaning no audio), Real Player just sat there not playing it, and so finally I found a PowerDVD disc and installed that to play the opening scene).

But the time I finally broke down and installed the vaunted VLC, it totally fucked with my browser plug-in settings and I couldn't watch any Quicktime trailers! I removed all trace of it when I realized that was standing in the way of my watching HD trailers, and not my PC hardware.

But I do use VLC under Linux....

I used to hate WMP, too, but I didn't like that Apple took away features from QT to bait you for the Pro version, Real just got plain annoying with their near-constant begging to be updated and repeated invasions into my system tray, and, well, I just went back to WMP. And I was primed to let VLC be my bitch, but then she did me wrong....

That's probably 'cause you treated her like a bitch, or you let her treat you like one. Probably didn't let her know the boundaries early on in the relationship, so she didn't have any respect for who you were. She thought she could "change" you and of course from that moment on life is just misery for both of you. Oldest story in the book.

Me, I set up the boundaries early on - don't go near my quicktime, mp3 or that damned wmp - and we've been fine ever since. I dare say I hear weddin' bells a' ringin'.

minus 10 for me. My first thought was Down With Love as well, but I also knew it was 60's, not 50s. So....I lose. Never seen the film.

I've heard WMP11 is the bees knees (with even less funtionality thatn before!). Time will tell....
